June 25, 2025 – Three Native American Rock Shelter explorations

Let meet up 6/25 at 8pm in Grace Lord Park near the gazebo in Boonton. We will get up close & personal with shelter #1 Washington Rock (aka Indian Rock), its HUGE!

Next stop is in Parsippany at Rock House, shelter #2. A rock hoppers paradise. Think we can find the petroglyphs?

Last stop is probably the most hidden and tough to find any info on, I was clued into this one by another lifetime member…. #3 Roc Etam in Denville. A tough mile hike, totally worth it.

Wear walking shoes & a bring a flashlight, maybe some bug spray. Bike lights are a must. It’s about a 25 mile loop. I will loop back to Boonton, but you may want to treat this as a point to point ride if it is more convenient for you.

Hope to see ya!

Update: three of us met up in Boonton , some mellow live music was sweet. Outta there up and over The Tourne and a straight shot through Denville. The weather cooled finally. Maybe some of you guys remember a bee hive at Rock House shelter last we visited a few years ago? I was oblivious and parked right next to the hive and quickly got some small stings. It was all uphill from there though finally making it to Roc Etam after some bushwacking and uphill trudging. Easy pace ghosting back to Boonton. Cool ride!
