Mountain, gravel, and road — Wildcat Ridge, Splitrock, Denville

Weather looks decent—no more snow, dry weather, and mild temperatures. Let’s take advantage of it!

Let’s mix it up with all types of riding. Bit of mountain, bit of gravel, and a bit of road. It’ll be an exploratory ride around Wildcat Ridge and Splitrock. Beautiful views and historical stuff along the way. My favorite is Cathedral Pines in Jonathan’s Woods. Some paths I haven’t been on in 25+ years!

Bring snacks, water, spare tube, and sense of adventure. One or two paths may need some bushwhacking so pack light.

  • When & Where: Sunday, March 15th 1pm at the clock in Denville. This is a day time ride.
  • Temperature: mid 40s and sunny. Rain is forecasted for well after our ride.
  • Distance: 28 miles. Rough map on Ride With GPS.
  • Terrain: This will be hilly and challenging. Single track, double track, gravel roads, slower side streets.
  • Snack break at the half way point.
  • We’ll stop at Diamond Spring Breweries for refreshments at the end of the ride.
  • Check here for any updates! Any substantial rain will cancel the event.

See you there!

Brian

Ride recap

Despite a mechanical break down and a wrong turn onto a hiking path, the ride was still enjoyable. We rode through Cathedral Pines, passed a bat cave, rode under the locally famous American flag and graffiti on Green Pond Road, a cemetery where most graves are 300+ years old, scaled a mountain, and took a fixing break under a random Japanese Yew tree. It proved there is so much more to explore in the Wildcat Ridge area and especially Johnathan’s Woods. We will be back!
