October 25-26, 2025- Bike Camping Trip; Spruce Run State Park

Pack up your panniers, batten down your baskets, stuff your bikepacking™ bags. I am getting psyched to camp on the waterfront at – Spruce Run State Park in Clinton. Meet at Denville clocktower, ready to roll at 1pm on a great 40 mile mixed terrain ride.  Here is the route. The ride includes a lot of gravel gliding on well maintained paths through Randolph, a REALLY nice chunk of West Morris Greenway rail trail, nearly the entirety of The Columbia Trail rail trail with the remainder on mostly quiet, scenic, hilly roads. Easy steady paced ride along this easy route. Tons of options for food & refreshments along the way and in town a couple miles from camp. Dinner in High Bridge is really fun, we usually eat at Circa. The food is great and staff is hospitable.   The next morning, I like to jet home about 8:30am with a couple quick stops at quickie marts.  Others will have a more relaxed approach, brewing camp coffee, perhaps cooking, leaving later and stopping for a bite… the choice is yours.  No registrations, no insurance, no services are provided.  We are a group of friends 👍.  Self supported. This event is free but bring a few dollars to help pay for the campsite. Parking a car overnight is tough…  most of us ride to the start.  The Denville Police will allow you to park in their lot if you ask them.  NJ Transit trains to Denville station are available. Heavy steady rain cancels. Let me know if you’re coming in the comments below or find my email in the contacts. Adventure Awaits!!!

Ride Recap:

The day started and continued to be a perfect fall day. The foliage was stunning, with fairly warm weather and few cars to bother us. We met up with a new group of riders halfway through and hit it off immediately. After cruising through the Morris Greenway and the Columbia Trail, we enjoyed dinner at Circa in High Bridge.

We connected with additional riders from PinoyBikerNJ, including one impressive ebike rig that carted five kids over 30 miles—truly remarkable! Snacks of all types were flowing, and everybody had a great time. The morning was leisurely and warmer than expected. We skipped the traditional breakfast stop as our guests brought an array of delicious food, including pho, rolls, and croissants to keep us energized.

The ride home was swift and contemplative, with long stretches to take in the beautiful scenery. Birdman pulled a challenging prank with a punishing 19% grade for one mile. Nice try! 😄

We look forward to another ride, PinoyBikerNJ riders!

Everyone is looking forward to the Winter Wheat release ride on the 8th!

  1. Hi, do you mind sharing the route? I’ve been wanting to do this with the whole crew. I might be able to meet you guys along the way, but I’d need to plan accordingly.
