June 4, 2023- Three Native American Rock Shelters ride/hike

Let meet up Sunday June 4 at 8pm in Grace Lord Park near the gazebo in Boonton. We’ll visit 3 different shelters, park the bikes near each and get up close and personal. Wear walking shoes, bring a flashlight, some bug spray is in order. Bike lights are a must.  No lights, no ride. It’s about a 25 mile loop so you’ll need water and Snacks!

We usually blast through this park on bikes, this time lets hike it in the daylight and get up on shelter #1 Washington Rock (aka Indian Rock), its HUGE!

Next stop is in Parsippany 6 miles away at Rock House, shelter #2. An Enormous series of stacked boulders. Rockhoppers paradise. Think we can find the petroglyphs?

Last stop 7 hilly miles away is probably the most hidden and tough to find any info on, I was clued into this one by weird nj and lifetime member J Rad….   #3 Roc Etam in Denville

I will loop back to Boonton, but you may want to treat this as a point to point ride back to your house if it is more convenient for you.

Hope to see ya!

Birdman update: This ride was an example of what the full moon ride is all about. Great time exploring and socializing with the wolves. Here are a few of my pics. They do not do it justice. You just had to be there.

  1. I’m looking forward to it. I think I will start and finish in Denville. Dan said Thatcher’s is open late and will hit that after ride . The new site is looking great. Awhoooo!

  2. I haven’t made gps tracks….From boonton- boulevard, pocono rd, rt53, mt tabor neighborhoods, left on park ave and rock house is nearby. Back to 53 north and left on powder mill dead end, pass the haunted lake!!. Cross rt 10. Right mountain way, left zeek, right casterline, right openaki, left rock etam rd.
