Hey you guys, on Sunday April 7 I am hosting a bike tour through Newark Branchbrook Park’s famous cherry trees. Come see the largest collection of cherry trees in the US in full bloom. April 7, 1pm. We’ll be meeting at the Prudential Concert Grove between the lions. If you can look across the lake and see the cathedral, you’re in the right place. The course is about 8 mostly flat leisurely miles long, and we’ll be walking our bikes through cherry groves at the halfway point. It’s easy for beginners and kids.
The park is closed to cars that morning for a 10k run. The roadblocks should be lifted by noon or 12:30. You can park anywhere inside the park along the side of the road. If you get there early and the roadblocks are still up, park in the cathedral parking lot. The closest entrances are on Clifton Avenue and Park Avenue. It’s just off I-280 and only a few blocks from Broad Street Station (NJ Transit). From Penn Station head straight up Raymond Blvd which runs into Nesbitt which dead ends into the corner of the park right next to the I-280 entrance. Piece of cake!
Afterward we’ll head down to the Ironbound (just east of Penn Station) for some food and sangria! I know all the back street spots that are cheap and dee-licious!
There is no fee, so we’re not giving out t-shirts. Wear pink if you want.
Hey Brian, nothing concrete for this one, but I have some routes in mind. I’m kind of leaning towards riding to Morris Plains and the ‘300 stairs’ hiking trail, to check out the hilltop where the Continental Army would have signal fires. This route would be hilly and mostly paved.
