March 8, 2012 Werewolf Bike n Hike

Another bike/hike/bike/eat/bike adventure.  Lets meet at Denville’s clock tower around 4:45pm and embark on an easy ride to Pyramid Mountain to meet up with a group moon hike at Pyramid Mountain County Park.   Charge your lights, wear or pack your hiking footwears.  8 or so miles, light on hills, from Denville to the park.  The hike will be a few miles over rugged terrain to scenic overlooks.  Hope for good weather (rain cancels the hike), bring a flashlight.

Registration for the hike is through the Pyramid Mountain Visitors Center at 973-334-3130 –  $5 per person.

Update: A large pack of wolves joined another bike n hike. It was super warm for March, very refreshing to ride in shorts & short sleeves. We took off and easily spun down into the valley then gritted our teeth to climb over a giant hill. We arrived at Pyramid Mountain as it was getting dark and joined 20 or so other people on the moon hike. The hiking was rugged, rocky & hilly. The first 10 yards had us all gawking at a large black snake warming himself on a boulder near a rocky creek. Up up up until we reached some very scenic overlooks. It got very dark. Looking west over the dark hills and valleys, the scene seemed very uninhabited & lonely. Our guide, Douglas, had an awesome animal sound emitting device, we rocked out to some spring peepers & owl calls The trail sure was rocky, we could hear shoes tripping and stumbling around. Some more hiking had us looking east out to NYC. I enjoyed an apple as we hung out at the rocky outcropping a long while. We regrouped back at the park office and rode back into Denville, avoiding the big hill this time. We continued the fun at Thatcher Magee’s in Denville, thatch fries are out of this world! Thanks Douglas for being our guide for the evening!

  3. Newark Branchbrook Park Cherry Blossom Ride – This Saturday the 24th @ 10am!

Meet Saturday at 10am at the fountains by the lake across from the cathedral, just off I-280.

Sorry for the short notice. Folks, the weather has been like steroids for blooms. In the last 3 days almost all of the trees have started to bloom and I think peak will be early next week. Like a rocket they blossomed and like a rocket they’ll burn out quick. Saturday afternoon and all day Sunday it’s supposed to rain so we have to go Saturday morning or wait until next weekend. I’ll probably do the tour again next weekend so, if you can’t make it on Saturday, come next week.

BTW- It’s an easy 8 miles at a slow pace. You can park anywhere in the park. If you have any questions call me at 973-997-6461

    See you there!

    Tim
