February 3, 2012 Werewolf Bike / Hike ***please, preregister asap!***

Friday! February 3rd, we will meet up around 5:45, at the fountain on the Morristown Green.  We will ride a couple miles to a full moon hike hosted by The Great Swamp Watershed Association.  We’re sure to have a really fun night!   The hike will be about an hour & a half.

You must preregister here ASAP   with the GSWA (there is a max capacity), there is a $10 donation required.   Have a credit card ready, I found the page very easy to use.   I hope you can make it out!   All pertinent info on the hike is here.

Anyone not registered for the hike, but still wanting to ride; lets ride together after the hike.  Meet up at GSWA Conservation Management Area, 1 Tiger Lily Lane, Morristown, NJ. around 8.  This is a pretty nice ride straight down James St. in Morristown, if you want to park in town, or I bet you can find parking near Tiger Lily Lane if you need to.

Update:

3 riders met at the Green and took a nice cruise down to Tiger Lily Lane to meet up with one more rider. The sun had set but the moon was shining. There was a big group of people waiting to hike. Two ladies came over to our little bike group, one remarked “Helga, can you believe they rode here, in the dark, oh goodness, I never!, how dangerous”, Helga replied “oh Nancy, I don’t think its dangerous, look at their bright lights.”

Once we all signed in, the gate to the deer fence surrounding the property was unlocked and we started the hike. Everyone turned off their flashlights and our eyes slowly adjusted until we saw our moon shadows on the ground. We participated in some fun activities to test our night vision. Our guide was an expert owl caller, although he wasn’t able to reel in any owls, I think I did hear an owl call back from very far off. The area was very nice, the trails were a bit muddy but very fun and scenic. We finished up the hike and met 2 lifetime members at the parking area who joined our ride back to Morristown for food and drinks.

  1. I just registered! I wanted to know where it starts. The website said 1 Tiger Lily Lane, Morristown, NJ. That seems really close to 287 and far away from the swamp.

  2. You are right. It is a seperate ‘management area’. Some more info:

    Tiger Lily Lane is at the end of a cul-de-sac and the CMA is at the very end. There is a sign bearing our heron logo in front of what appears to be dense brush. A path leads through that brush and up to the gate of our deer fence. The hike will take place inside the fence, but everything should start out on the pavement.

  5. sorry Tim. We can still try and meet up afterwards maybe. I was psyched to team up w/ the hike. Not so psyched about the max capacaity & the required donation.

  8. I’ll be at the fountain on the green at 7:15p for those that want to meet up after the hike at 8p for the remainder of the ride. In the event of rain I will not ride.

    1. Been looking at possible future rides to N.J. breweries. Denville (or closer) to Fairfield via Horseneck Rd.
      Morristown to Long Valley via 510 to 513 (old Rt.124), and there are two breweries off the D&R canal bike path.
      There is one 7 miles east of Philly for those doing the Pittsburgh to Philly ride.
