Saturday March 19 we ride from the Denville town clock and head over to Boonton, tracing The Morris Canal across Denville, Powerville and into Boonton. Food & refreshments in Boonton? 12 miles, no hills. Does 6:30 meet up sound ok?
Update: 10 riders met to ride a route roughly resembling this route into a cold headwind. Thankfully, we managed to turn a corner to get a push from the wind and follow all ‘The Morris Canal Crossed here’ signs along its way. The towpath is not easy to follow, sometimes it is someones driveway or front lawn, often a parking lot, a little muddy and basically hidden away. We rode along 2 watered sections, lucky finds. 2 spots are gated off abrudptly. We rode straight through a farm road towards The Tourne. It got ‘dark’. We crossed the Rockaway River for the third time at Powerville and Boonton came up fast. The moon finally rose in the east and I think we howled for the next mile or so. We headed towards the falls which were falling with a nice solid roar of great intensity. The path was steep and turns sharp into a thin leaf covered bridge crossing high over the river, quickly we passed a glacial erratic that towers but was actually hard to see. Really Fun. We got hungry and thirsty so we stopped at Boonton Ave. Grill. We stuck to the roadways and doubled back to Denville, we did not encounter a bear and no one rode into the river. I rode home stuffed and happy. It was great riding with everyone.

Too bad, I’ll be out of town. Have a good ride.

Sunset is at 7:09pm and Moonrise is 7:29pm. The moon probably won’t be high enough to make a difference until around 8pm.

I have to go to a stuffy cocktail part that evening. I would definitely rather be riding.
