PSA- Road Safety; Links, Contacts & Forms!!!

Hi, Fellow Riders. Just a quick public service announcement. Safety is really important to the Full Moon Ride and I’m always proud when I say I think our ride is VERY safe. You’ve probably heard my schpiel on your first ride – “No lights, no ride. We stop at stop signs and red lights. We signal turns, call out hazzards and if you’re riding next to someone, single up when vehicles are passing!”

In the interest of improving riding conditions out there I thought I would post the below links and contacts and to encourage you to report unsafe road conditions, roads needing maintenance and especially any roads that have bad sight lines/narrow lanes that encourage close passes or generally unsafe areas for cycling with aggressive driving. You are probably not a traffic engineer, I’m not either! You don’t need to be… There are paid professionals just an email away who can help. I’ve had really good results getting maintenance items taken care of and being offered solutions after reporting unsafe areas that concern me. Please do reach out to your local town, the County or State of NJ as appropriate.

Morris County Roads: Morris County Department of Transportation mcdot@co.morris.nj.us

or Christopher J. Vitz, P.E., Supervising Engineer – CVitz@co.morris.nj.us

State of New Jersey Roads: NJDOT report a problem form NJDOT cannot enter a town and make changes in their jurisdiction without the town’s consent.
Should the issue fall under NJDOT’s jurisdiction, the local officials will forward a direct request to the appropriate NJDOT staff for an investigation on behalf of the municipality.

To locate your town’s web site:

  • Go to www.google.com
  • type your town name followed by NJ

ENJOY THE RIDE!
