This months ride will have a Weird New Jersey theme to it. We’ll explore the urban legend of “ The Hookerman Lights”.
Let’s meet up at the town clock in Chester at 7:15pm with kickstands up at 7:30pm (Town clock is across the street from the Pubick House and next to the fire department) Saturday May, 2nd.
As we ride off into the sunset, we’ll cycle past a spooky cemetery that has some old headstones worth checking out. From there, it will be a nice downhill on quiet back roads to the areas where the Hookerman Lights have been reported.
We’ll then take a ride along the Columbia Trail and make a pit stop at The Long Valley Brewpub. We can enjoy some of their great beers/food while discussing our own sightings. I personally want to try their Hookerman Light.
We’ll have a chance to burn off some of those calories on the way back to Chester. There will be a few climbs to get our blood flowing. When we finish up our ride, we can visit the Publick House for last call. It has also been mentioned in Weird NJ and it has history of being haunted.
Ride stats: This ride will be approx. 15 miles. The first half will be mostly downhill to flat getting to the tracks. The Columbia trail is flat and has a stone dust surface with some small stones as well. Skinny tire bikes should use caution. After the Brewpub, we will have some hills to climb to get back to Chester. This is a no drop ride with many stops.
Bring lights and your sense of adventure.
The Birdman
Recap: Eleven brave riders showed up to search for the Hookerman Lights. While we did not see the Hookerman, we did get some cool pictures of the area with some creepy orbs. Maybe it was the Hookerman after all!?!? I’ll let you decide.
We had such a good time at the brew pub, we lost track of time. It was midnight when we returned back to Chester leaving us no time to visit the Publick. Looks like we may have to plan another ride in this area in the future.
Thanks to everyone who came out. Until next time. AWwwooooooo!

count me in!!!!!!!!!!!

I am so in for this one. Just trying to figure out a big enough reason to bring the new cargo bike…. Hmmm … How much beer do you think we’ll need for this ride?
